PQQ is the third oxidoreductase coenzyme discovered after nicotinamide ribonucleotide and flavin ribonucleotide and is classified as a novel B vitamin. It is usually found in the dietary supplement field as a single dose (in the form of a disodium salt) or as a product in combination with Q10.

PQQ salt is managed as "Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS)" in the U.S. and can be used as raw materials in energy drinks, sports drinks, electrolyte drinks and other food products; in the EU and Canada, it is used as dietary supplements or natural health food. The recommended consumption of this product is ≤20mg/day (i.e. the recommended consumption of this product with 98.0 g/100g of pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium salt is ≤20mg/day, and the consumption of products exceeding this content is converted according to the actual content). Scope of use and maximum use amount: beverages (40 mg/kg, solid beverages are converted according to the liquid mass after brewing). PQQ salt is approved for use as a dietary supplement for healthy adults (except pregnant and lactating wom en) in the EU.
