Rhaponticum carthamoides: Maral root is the root of Rhaponticum carthamoides, also known as Xinjiang ginseng, which is a genus of Stemmacantha in the family Asteraceae, distributed in northwestern Xinjiang, China. The main components of Rhaponticum carthamoides include phytosteroids, flavonoids, triterpenoid saponins and phenolic acids. The former Soviet scholars have conducted a lot of research on the chemical composition and pharmacological effects of Rhaponticum carthamoides, and concluded that the Ecdysterone it contains has similar adaptogenic effects as ginseng, eleuthero and antler. It is used in folklore as an immune-enhancing fortifier.
